Single Realm Matchmaker
One of the biggest changes in Update 8.1 is the introduction of the Single Realm matchmaker—a complete overhaul of how matchmaking works in World of Warships Blitz.
Previously, players were matched within their regional server, which could lead to long waiting times, uneven team composition, or limited diversity in battles depending on the time of day. That all changes now.
With the Single Realm system, players from all regions are matched in a unified global matchmaking pool. This means:
- Faster matchmaking across all time zones—limited to the following battle types: Random and Respawn.
- Fairer battles with better team balance thanks to a larger pool of players.
- More variety in opponents and teammates, making every battle feel fresh.
This is a foundational update that not only improves the day-to-day matchmaking experience but also sets the stage for future features like global competitive events and a more interconnected community.
We’re not stopping here—further enhancements to the Single Realm matchmaker are already in development and scheduled for release in Update 8.2, including refinements to matchmaking logic and performance optimization.
Single Realm Matchmaking: Bringing together players from around the globe... to argue over who forgot to cap.
Supership Season: Maelstrom
The next Supership Season is here—and it’s all about pushing things forward.
All Superships are going live this season! And don’t worry, we remembered to bring a leash for Edgar. This gives us a unique opportunity to observe how each ship performs under real battle conditions with other Superships and begin shaping the long-term balance of the Supership ecosystem.
Here’s what that means:
- All released Superships to date are now available to play.
- We’ll be closely monitoring performance, pick rates, and feedback to identify which ships need buffs, tweaks, or full reworks.
- The goal is to bring all Superships to a healthy and competitive baseline, with no clear outliers—just great gameplay across the board.
Maelstrom isn’t just a season—it’s a proving ground. Your battles will help define the future of this feature.
New Tech Tree Arrival: Pan-American Battleships
A brand-new Techline branch joins the fray—introducing Pan-American battleships!
These ships bring distinct identities to the battlefield:
These ships bring a fierce and flexible playstyle, centered around close-quarters combat and a mix of main battery power and automatic secondaries, much like their German counterparts. They pack serious punch with both AP and HE shells, but beware—their torpedo protection is limited, so charging in recklessly comes at a cost.
- The Tier VIII and IX ships stand out with multiple 234 mm secondary guns, delivering intense suppressive fire when positioned well.
- Situational awareness is key—closing the gap can be rewarding, but poor positioning will be quickly punished.
- The line also introduces special Combat Instruction: after dealing a set amount of damage, the auto-secondaries gain increased range and accuracy as well as reduced cooldown time, letting you dominate brawls when timed right."
It’s a high-risk, high-reward line built for aggressive players who know when to push and when to hold.
And of course, with a new line comes new missions, events, and rewards—including camouflages, blueprints, and more to support your journey through the Tech Tree.
New Feature: Alternative Torpedoes
Debuting exclusively on Japanese destroyer Minegumo, this feature allows players to carry and switch between two distinct torpedo types mid-battle. Each type has its own unique characteristics—such as damage, speed, and range—but both share a common cooldown.
You can switch torpedo types at any time during battle, giving you the flexibility to:
- Adapt to different targets on the fly.
- Choose between high-damage torps or faster, stealthier alternatives.
- Maximize your impact in evolving combat scenarios.
For now, this feature is exclusive to Minegumo, but we plan to expand it to more ships in future updates. Stay tuned as we refine and grow this mechanic based on your feedback. If Tier I ships start carrying double torps, you’ll know we’ve gone too far—or just far enough.

New Premium Ships
Sydney—Commonwealth Tier VII cruiser (June Blitz Pass)
A modernized version of Perth, Sydney is a well-rounded light cruiser with excellent mobility and precision. Her survivability is average, but her accurate main guns and versatile skill set make her adaptable in many situations. Be mindful of her weaker AP shells, which can limit her burst potential.
Prince of Wales—British Tier VIII battleship (May Blitz Pass)
An upgraded version of the KGV-class, Prince of Wales brings classic British battleship energy. Her 10 main guns can deal serious damage—especially with citadel hits—but poor maneuverability means positioning is everything. Heavy Repair Team and Crawling Smoke Generator give her more staying power in the right hands.
Atago—Japanese Tier VIII cruiser
Sister ship to Takao, Atago trades concealment for firepower. Her main battery and torpedo output are stronger, but adjusted torpedo angles demand more precise positioning and timing!
Minegumo—Japanese Tier IX destroyer
Introducing the Alternative Torpedo mechanic, Minegumo is a stealthy and mobile destroyer with top-tier damage potential. Players can switch between two torpedo types mid-battle to adapt to targets, but weak main guns require smart positioning and experience.
Svea—European Tier X cruiser
A fragile but potent team support ship, Svea offers strong concealment and accurate main guns. Her impressive utility-focused skill set makes her a standout pick for long-term strategic play.
Komissar—Soviet Tier X cruiser
The first bomber-cruiser hybrid, Komissar mixes long-range firepower with aircraft attacks, torpedoes, and main battery damage. While her mobility and durability are average, she excels at sustained pressure from a distance.
Black Nebraska—American Tier VIII battleship
A sleek reimagining of Nebraska with a focus on rapid reloads and anti-air support.
Additional Information
A few extra improvements and tweaks are coming your way in Update 8.1—including some long-requested (and loudly demanded) changes.
Comparison Window: OK, OK—we heard you!
The community was not shy about this one—so we’ve got good news:
- The comparison list now stores up to six ships again (up from the baffling two).
- We’ve also changed the way you close the window—the toggle button is gone, replaced by a proper “X” close button, because, well… sanity.
Thanks for yelling. We love that passion.
We’ve also pushed a number of additional UI improvements live in this update to streamline navigation and improve overall clarity across menus.
New Icon Display: Deepwater Torpedoes
When a ship features Deepwater Torpedoes, you’ll now see a new Deepwater Torpedo icon when entering battle.
Ship Tree UI Update
We’ve made it easier to track your ship research progress at a glance:
- Ship XP is now displayed in silver-gray, while Free XP appears in gold, right beneath each researchable ship.
- Ships that are ready to be researched will now show new visual effects to draw your attention.
Time to revisit your Tech Tree and see what’s just a few battles away!
Adjusted Ship Specialty: Additional Damage Control Kit
- Four Damage Control Kits per battle
- –25% Fire and Flooding duration
This makes them more resilient and better suited for sustained brawls—especially under fire.
Ships with this specialty:
- Soviet Tier VI: Izmail, Black Izmail, Novorossiysk
- Soviet Tier VII: Sinop
- Soviet Tier VIII: Vladivostok, Ship Smasha (Warhammer 40,000), Lenin, Borodino
- Soviet Tier IX: Sovetsky Soyuz, Navarin
- Soviet Tier X: Kremlin
- Pan-Asian Tier IX: Tianjin
